Pick the right grid

田字格 (Tian Zi Ge) shows the centre and both axes so beginners can judge balance and proportion. 米字格 adds diagonals to line up slanted strokes, and 回宫格 frames the character so it never outgrows the box.

Set the level of help

Start with pinyin, stroke-order breakdown and tracing switched on. As the shapes stick, turn the guides off one by one and leave blank squares for independent writing.

Print the way you like

Letter, A4 and A3 are supported with portrait or landscape orientation. Print straight from the browser, or choose “Save as PDF” to keep a vector copy you can print again later.

Frequently asked questions

What is 田字格 (Tian Zi Ge)?

Tian Zi Ge — literally “field character grid” — is the squared practice box used in Chinese schools. The outer square is the character's boundary, the dashed vertical and horizontal lines mark the centre, and together they show learners where each stroke should sit and how the parts balance.

Is the worksheet generator really free?

Yes. Everything on this site is free to use with no account and no limits on how many sheets you print. The site is supported by advertising and by voluntary contributions from readers, who receive the five-book printable library — 239 pages in all — as a thank-you.

Can I type English or pinyin?

The worksheet only takes Chinese characters — punctuation, spaces and Latin letters are ignored. If you are looking up an unfamiliar character, use the Stroke Order tool, which accepts pinyin too.

How do I get a PDF?

Click “Print / Save as PDF”. In the print dialog choose your PDF printer (on macOS and Windows this is usually called “Save as PDF” or “Microsoft Print to PDF”). The exported file keeps true paper dimensions, so it prints at exactly the right scale.

Does it work on a phone or tablet?

Yes — the whole site is responsive, and the Stroke Order tool supports touch for hand-writing practice with a finger or stylus.

Do you collect my data?

No. Worksheets are generated entirely inside your browser. Your last-used settings are saved locally on your own device so the page remembers your preferences.
