These are five independent PDFs — not one combined volume. Each stands on its own, so you can print the whole course, a single practice booklet, or just a pad of blank grids. Every page comes from the same engine as the generator on this site, so the grids, the stroke order and the pinyin match exactly what you see on screen, and each one prints correctly on whichever paper size you use.
The 500 Character Workbook
The full course. 500 characters ordered by real-world frequency and grouped into 25 weekly sets, each with a reference card, stroke-by-stroke diagrams and graded writing pages that move from tracing to writing from memory. Includes an index, blank practice sheets, a progress tracker and a certificate of completion.
Ready-Made Practice Sets
All 27 ready-made sets from the generator — numbers, HSK 1 core, themes, phrases and classic poems — printed out as 米字格 worksheets. Every row is one character: a solid model, two faded copies to trace, then four empty squares, with pinyin and a plain-English meaning alongside.
Blank 米字格 Sheets
Twenty pages of empty 米字格 — the square with the centre cross and both diagonals. 154 squares per page at roughly 15 mm, which is the size that keeps young writers inside the square. Use them for free writing, dictation or homework.
Blank 田字格 Sheets
The same layout in 田字格 — centre cross only, no diagonals. Cleaner guides for quick drills, spelling tests and showing a character without giving away its balance. Also 20 pages at 154 squares each.
Classic Poems
Eleven classic Chinese poems every learner meets — from Goose, Goose, Goose to Quiet Night Thoughts — each on a read-trace-write spread: the full poem in 米字格 with tone-marked pinyin and a line-by-line English translation alongside, plus the new characters from each poem broken down stroke by stroke with their meanings.

What exactly do I get?
Five separate printable books, delivered as six separate PDF files (five books, plus the workbook in a second paper size): The 500 Character Workbook (120 pages, in both a US Letter and an A4 edition), Ready-Made Practice Sets (44 pages of 米字格 practice), Blank 米字格 Sheets (20 pages), Blank 田字格 Sheets (20 pages) and Classic Poems (35 pages). That is 239 print-ready pages in total. There is no app to install and no account to create — they are ordinary PDFs you can print, reprint and file.
How soon do I receive them?
As soon as your contribution is processed, the download page appears and the link is also emailed to you. There is nothing to wait for and nothing to ship.
Is this a purchase?
No. It is a voluntary contribution that supports the site, and the five-book library is our thank-you gift for it. There is no product to be manufactured, packed or delivered by post, which is why the amount is only $1.99.
Are these physical books?
No — they are digital PDFs you print yourself. That is also why you can reprint worn pages whenever you like, and why the whole set fits in one download.
Which paper size do I get?
Both. The workbook comes in a US Letter edition and an A4 edition, and the booklet set is laid out to print correctly on either US Letter or A4 without scaling.
Can I use the books with my students?
Yes — print as many copies as you need for your own children or your own classroom. Sharing the PDF files themselves, or distributing copies beyond your own teaching, is not permitted; schools and institutions can ask us about a site licence.
Can I share the files with a friend or a group?
Please don't. The files are licensed to the person who contributed. If a friend wants them, sending them to this page is what keeps the project going.
Can I get a refund if I change my mind?
No. Because these are digital files delivered instantly and completely, all contributions are final and non-refundable, and no returns or exchanges are possible. The one exception is a file that is genuinely faulty or not as described — in that case we will fix it, re-send it, or refund the contribution. What if a download link doesn't work?
Email us with your order reference and we will re-send the files or help you get them working. Support is the reason we ask for an email address.
Can I contribute a different amount?
You can contribute more if you would like to support the project further, and the thank-you gift is identical. The amount is suggested, not a price list.
